Over the centuries, data storage has progressed to the point where the complete technical readouts for the Death Star can be stored on a flat disk no larger than a humans` hand, but when that file is decompressed, encrypted, and backed up, it can fill a floor-to-ceiling array of interlocked information banks. Most businesses and laboratories use permanent computer networks like these for their archiving needs.
Ones that don`t have this luxury such as on military installations, particularly those in contested space, because all the personel could be ordered to exaculate the base at a moments notice. In years past this then would require erasing all the computer records with a mag-pulse device rather than allowing the information to fall into enemy hands. With the invent of the memory droid this wasteful bridge-burning is a thing of the past.
SoroSuub Corporation`s memory droids possess and astonishing endowment for information storage. The average consumer has no need for this type of data volume, but large military installations that deal with star charts, subspace monitoring reports, authentication codes, intelligence dossiers, historical archives, and encryption algorithms, can easily fill five or six memory droids to capacity.
